Position Description
The Director, User Experience has a critical role in the organization bringing a unique blend of user insights, client understanding, and skill for the creation of transformative experiences for our clients and their customers. As Director, User Experience you will be responsible for leading and continuing to scale our UX team. You will have the opportunity to participate in all aspects of a project, spearheading discussions with clients throughout the entire UX process. You’ll work in close collaboration with OX leadership, including teams specializing in design, project management, client strategy, technology, and more. You will receive and gain customer insights from primary and secondary research, and apply this knowledge in the creation of site architectures, user flows, and ultimately the service and product design experiences your team will lead, design, and prototype.

The Director, User Experience will be an ambassador and key leader advocating and educating the organization and clients on human-centered design principles, design thinking, and user research practices and methodologies. These capabilities and vision will be a critical input to the digital product strategy of our UX team.

Responsibilities & Duties

  • Manages and leads the team of UX architects, researchers, and content strategists
  • Lead concept exploration, creation, and implementation of immersive, high-touch user interfaces that serve brand and business outcomes
  • Engage with cross-functional teams by offering valuable input to enhance the execution and quality of deliverables, while also showing the ability to frame and position the intent and content of these deliverables to a diverse group of stakeholders
  • Mentor UX team members toward top performance and help them track toward long-term career goals; empower the team to learn and create an environment that facilitates shared learning
  • Lead the advancement of the UX practice at OX, staying abreast of trends and tools and contribute thought leadership to the organization
  • Partner with client strategy, creative, project management, and development teams on UI/UX roadmaps
  • Meet with client leaders and stakeholders to understand business goals, target audience, consumer journeys, and other factors that will impact that user experience approach
  • Conduct site audits and best-in-class industry scans to evaluate the current state experiences of our clients and the industry as a whole
  • Lead wireframe and prototype creation through all phases of a project, from concept through design and development
  • Create a deep understanding and empathy for our customers across diverse audiences and business leaders
  • Manages outside UX vendors, contractors, and related budgets
  • Coordinate on ensuring we meet requirements for accessibility
  • Other duties as assigned by your manager

Required Experience

  • 10+ years of in-depth knowledge and experience of Interaction Design and Service Design across varied users, business problems, and devices
  • Prior experience leading UX projects and teams
  • Expertise in driving and applying user-centered design processes
  • Accustomed to working collaboratively with customers and cross-functional team members
  • Beginning to develop an area of specialization within the greater design landscape and willingness to develop a deeper understanding of the following but not limited to: User Research and Strategy, Visual Design, Service Design, and Content Development
  • Expertise creating interaction models, flows, and wireframes
  • Advanced knowledge of rapid prototyping and testing methods, ranging from paper sketching to digital prototypes
  • Ability to learn new software quickly; experience with Google G Suite, Figma, Sketch, InVision, Axure, Confluence, Validately, JIRA, Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite is a plus
  • Passion and commitment for great design
  • Experience working in an agile environment
